4. Motivation: Observational basis
The cell morphology along the dryline on 19 April 1996 was marked by
development of a large number of storm cells along the dryline;
a period of splitting and merging (sometimes of adjacent split pairs,
sometimes from other, weaker cells which had not yet split)
development into a smaller number of severe, often tornadic storms.
